I have played enough Marvel Rivals to know that when NetEase says 'small tweaks', they actually mean 'we are about to ruin someone's day.' Halfway through Season 1, they dropped a patch that turned Central Park into a vampire hangout, added Johnny Storm and Ben Grimm to the roster, and then, just for fun, aimed a sledgehammer at the triple-support meta that had been making team fights feel like a never-ending dental appointment.

But before I start crying in Strategist, let's give credit where it is due: NetEase also made a genuinely player-friendly move by letting us convert Chrono Tokens into other currencies for skins. Chrono Tokens pile up like unread emails, so watching them become something useful is a small miracle. The Battle Pass still runs for 90 days and can be accessed later, which is nice, because my backlog is already a horror movie.

Strategist Ults Are Now on a Budget

So here is the big one: Luna Snow, Invisible Woman, Mantis, and Cloak and Dagger now have to work harder to charge their ultimates. Why? Because a well-coordinated triple-support squad could cycle defensive ultimates back to back and become effectively immortal. Ever tried to kill a team that has Luna Snow dancing, Mantis glowing, and Cloak and Dagger doing their weird dash thing at the same time? It feels like punching a cloud while the cloud politely regenerates.

Here are the changes that matter in one quick burst:

  • Luna Snow, Invisible Woman, Mantis, and Cloak and Dagger: slower ultimate charge

  • Cloak and Dagger: faster ultimate but stacking was removed

  • Magik and Venom: faster ultimate charge

  • Doctor Strange and Magneto: survivability nerfs

Cloak and Dagger probably got the harshest treatment. Their ultimate is faster now, but it no longer stacks to increase healing output. That means the old trick of stacking carpets on the point to create a magical floor of immortality is gone. I have seen many Strategist mains stare into the void after discovering this. Honestly, I get it.

The goal is not to delete the triple-support meta, just to stop it from making fights drag on until the heat death of the universe. NetEase even buffed ultimate charge for Magik and Venom, which tells me they want more counters to the support fortress rather than simply banning a playstyle. It is a weird way to balance, but I respect the ambition.

Magneto Just Became the Support Nightmare

Let me tell you about Magneto. For a while, his ultimate was in limbo, but recently it became the go-to tool for deleting Strategist ultimates. Why? Because while it charges, he absorbs projectiles, and unlike Iron Man, he can track moving targets. So when a Luna Snow or Invisible Woman pops their big healing circle and their team pushes forward, a Magneto can just float up, charge his giant magnetic ball, and say, 'Nice healing. Shame if someone one-shot it.'

Cloak and Dagger are especially vulnerable because their ultimate often sends them away from teammates. But even Luna Snow, Invisible Woman, and Mantis have to pray when Magneto is in the sky. He was already the best support-killer in the game, and now his primary fire damage got buffed, so he charges his ultimate even faster. If I was a Strategist main, I would be having nightmares about a flying old man with a metal beach ball.

Less Healing, More Dying, and Honestly, More Fun

The patch also lowered general survivability. Doctor Strange and Magneto both took nerfs to their survivability, which makes sense because fights are supposed to be faster and more intense. NetEase clearly wants characters to actually die instead of standing in overlapping healing fields for three minutes straight.

Will this completely shake the meta? The Human Torch looks absolutely cracked in the demo footage, and The Thing looks like he was built in a lab to make Vanguards terrifying. The rest of the Fantastic Four could flip team compositions upside down, just like Invisible Woman helped create the triple-support era in the first place.

Now, here is my favorite part: while support ultimates got slower, many Strategist base kits were left alone or even buffed. Adam Warlock's Soul Bond heals more, his primary does more damage, and Loki got more ammo. So supports are not useless, they just can no longer rely on pressing one button to make their entire team unkillable. That feels like good design, even if it makes some Strategist mains want to throw their keyboards into the sun.

Should You Be Worried?

If you main Luna Snow, Mantis, Invisible Woman, or Cloak and Dagger, yes, you will feel these changes. But if you enjoy faster fights, more counterplay, and seeing Magneto players finally have a clear purpose beyond floating around menacingly, this patch is for you.

NetEase has said it does not want to remove the triple-support meta, only make it easier to counter. Whether that actually happens in Season 1.5 is something only the ranked ladder can reveal. Until then, I will be in quick play, practicing Magneto's ultimate and apologizing to every Strategist I delete.
